David Slay is a lifetime horseman. His training program is unique in the fact that not only does he train reining cow horses, but is proving to be an asset to the hunter/jumper world as well. His horses develop confidence along with a softness that makes them easy and pleasurable to ride. He is one of the few trainers I have come across that uses no harsh training techniques to establish his relationship with a horse. He treats them with respect and in return, the horses build a solid trust with him and willingly give what he asks of them.
David's long journey with horses is deeply rooted in personal healing and a passion for teaching both horses and people. For nearly two decades, he's found solace and purpose in working with these majestic animals. A mentor's insight about horses healing the soul resonated with him, as he recognized the profound impact they had on his own life.
His approach to horse training is holistic, focusing on building a strong foundation for both the horse and rider. He particularly enjoys working with young horse minds, shaping their understanding and helping them relax under pressure. This foundational work extends beyond specific disciplines, influencing even the training of trail horses.
David offers services such as riding instruction, lessons, and clinics, all centered around the discipline of reining cow horses. He believes in the universality of fundamental principles in horse training, emphasizing the importance of exposing horses to external pressures and teaching them to adapt and relax under such circumstances.
For David, the work goes beyond individual interactions; it's about creating a ripple effect of positive change. He sees each person he helps as a conduit for spreading understanding and compassion towards horses, ultimately impacting every horse they come into contact with. His dedication to both the animals and the people involved reflects a profound gratitude for the transformative power of horses in his life.
